I work for a disability attorney. Can confirm the system is poorly set up and needs an overhaul.
The fun thing is that disabled people have to survive on SSI (a maximum of $841 a month and you basically can't be in a relationship) or SSDI (average $1300 but many get far less), and you can't even work at the big box store to make ends meet.
